Heritage complex linked to La Sénia’s Airfield
During the Spanish conflict, the Government of the Second Republic, to defend itself against the rebel military coup, planned the construction of several military airfields in Catalonia, among them, La Sénia’s Airfield. In April 1938, the aerodrome passed into the the national army’s hands, becoming the base of the German Condor Legion until the end of the conflict.
Currently, it is a partially preserved area that hosts an interpretation center in the old Command House and conserves the anti-aircraft shelter. Receives special relevance the Historic Aviation Center of La Sénia, the unique aircraft museum in the territory, which exhibits different aeronautical pieces of that time that surprise by their presence and majesty, considered of a great value and interest.
La Sénia’s old town
The situation of the oldest urban center is found in relation to the ways that converged near the river Sénia to enter to the Els Ports Natural Park. Although the settlement charter of La Sénia dates from the year 1232 (in the Middle Ages), there are vestiges that testify to the presence of settlers in this location since prehistoric times.
The precise place chosen to locate the village has a clearly defensive motivation: closed and protected by the cliff located next to the Sénia river, which is embedded almost 60 meters deep. This peculiarity means that, today, walking through La Sénia’s old town allows us to enjoy splendid views of the landscape that makes up our closest natural environment.

Along the river we also find several old mills, such as Molí la Vella, a building with more than 900 years of history. We have documentary references from the 14th century, when it was used as a flour mill, but it has also been used as a paper factory and, later, as an ice factory that worked until the generalization of domestic refrigerators in the 70s. When the building fell into disuse, the building fell into disrepair until, in the 80s, the council bought it and began the rehabilitation process.
